Peavy takes Clemens in duel.

I’m not one for baseball… I enjoy the games at times but its hard to keep my attention for the 9 innings. I happened to hear about this pitching match up on the way home and was excited about it. If I had known a few hours earlier I would have been at the game.
Peavy pitched a full 9 innings in a 4-hit shut out. Clemens pitched a complete 8 innings allowing 2 runs and 5 hits. The Padres won it with a RBI and homer by Giles, 2-0. With the D-Backs loosing tonight the friars are 5 games ahead of the Dodgers and Diamondbacks.
On a future note… if the season ended today. The Padres would play the Braves in the first play off series. The Pads have a 5-1 record against the Braves this season. Further, the Pads have a 4-3 record against the Cardinals the 1st place team in the NL. Stuff to think about…
San Diego Padres : News: “SAN DIEGO — Facing his boyhood idol, the great Roger Clemens, Jake Peavy was the better man on Tuesday night at PETCO Park. The Padres’ 24-year-old right-hander outdueled the Rocket in a 2-0 decision in front of 37,985, holding the Astros to four hits.
The shutout was Peavy’s third of the season and second in four starts. Peavy struck out six and walked two.
The Padres scored early and late against Clemens, who lost his second consecutive decision and fell to 11-6 as Peavy moved to 11-6.
Dave Roberts tripled on Clemens’ second pitch, scoring on Brian Giles’ one-out single to left. It was Giles taking care of things by himself in the seventh, launching a one-out homer into the right-field seats, 371 feet away, for his 13th homer of the season.
The Astros left the bases loaded in the third and again in the sixth, Peavy making big pitches when he needed them. In the third, he retired Craig Biggio and Lance Berkman to close out the threat started by Adam Everett with a leadoff double.
In the sixth, a force at home from Xavier Nady to Miguel Olivo on Jason Lane’s grounder was the second out, and a deflection off Peavy to Damian Jackson at short retired the side when Nady scooped Jackson’s throw on the run. “
