SF Giants Printing Playoff Tix?
Posted on | August 30, 2005 | No Comments
Yes the Padres are the best of the worst, playing in the NL West. But what is San Francisco doing other then setting themselves up for failure. At 57-73 they are printing playoff tickets with a little over a month of games to play. These arn’t the ‘Wild Card’ tickets some would expect with such a poor record, but NL West Champion playoff tickets. But I guess in the failing NL West this is not so strange.
You see the Giants, are only 7 games out of 1st place, while still being 16 games under .500.
”You don’t want to put tickets on sale when you are 15 games out and have a 1 percent or less chance,” Giants owner Peter Magowan said. ”But if you do have a legitimate shot at it, you look stupid if you don’t put them out.”
Sadly the Giants have a legitimate shot at the 1st place spot. Entering the month of September, the last place Rockies have had the best record in the NL West since the All-Star Break. Talk about poor timing to go on a streak.
So whats going on in the NL West. The D-Back dropped 14/20 after the break. The Dodgers have self-destructed brining them 4.5 games out of 1st, tied with the d-backs. With the final month, there will be plenty of NL West match ups. Lets just hope the team that represents the NL West is over .500!
But I’m taking bets right now that their not!
