Chargers Offseason Thus Far.

Brees goes marching… The first key business item is that Brees is gone. He has cut from San Diego, for a $60m 6year deal with the New Orleans Saints. AJ Smith elected to go with his ‘boy’ Phillip Rivers for the 2006 Season. Is this because of Brees’ surgically repaired shoulder or was this the plan from draft day 2004, but AJ never had an opening.
Are the Chargers cheap? I would say they are not. They have spent top dollar on LT, Shawn Merriman, Antonio Gates and Phillip Rivers. I would hardly say they are cheap. The Chargers under the control of AJ Smith don’t build through free agency, they build through the draft and talent on the team. We traded draft picks for LT, and Phillip Rivers, picked up Merriman in the draft and Gates off the basketball courts. LT and Gate proved they were valuable assets to the team and they rewarded with high-end contracts. LT was the highest paid back in the NFL (before the Alexander deal a few weeks ago) and Gates is one of the highest paid Tight-Ends.
Season Opener on MNF The chargers get the honor of playing in one of the first Monday Night Football games on ESPN, as they match up against the Chokeland Raiders in the second game of a double header. The Raiders recently ‘upgraded’ their offense with Aaron Brooks. The Chargers have always played well against Brooks. The last time they met, Brooks threw a 30 yrd reverse pass while under pressure. The Saints were faced with a third down and 45 yards to go! The Raider game will be a great way to start off what looks to be a promising season.
Preseason Schedule Released:
The Preseason schedule was set March 19th, with 2 nationally televised preseason games, a divisional NFC Champion and the NFC Champions. Here it is…
- pWk 1. Green Bay makes their first trip to San Diego
- pWk 2. Da Bears at soldiers Field – NFC
- pWk 3. Seattle Seahawks – NFC North Champions
- pWk 4. Niners (for the 19th straight preseason)
The nice thing about our preseason is we get to practice against two teams we will be facing off against in the regular season. Seattle and the Niners.
Whats Left: Draft is around the corner and the full schedule will be release soon. What we do know is the Chargers will face the Browns, Cardinals, Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders, Steelers, Rams, and Titans at home this season. And have road games against Bengals, Niners, Seahawks, Broncos, Raiders, Chiefs, Ravens, and Bills.
