Rant on the Pro-Bowl

Posted on | February 11, 2007 | No Comments

As much as I dispise the MLB Allstar Game, they did something right. The game decides which World Series team will get the home field advantage in the series. For the NFL the Probowl is nothing more then a vacation for the top players.

The Pro-Bowl is set up to be nothing more then an exhibition game. Special rules are put in place to protect the players. This includes no blitzing, no reviews, intentional grounding is permitted, and no movement before the snap. These rules and others weakens the game. Its worse then preseason.

I like the Pro-Bowl game…Seeing the collection of Pro-Bowlers is a nice way to leave the season, till August. You get to see the top talent in action, against other big names. Honestly during the regular season, the average joe, knows what 2-3 named players per game? The probowl is an oportunity for the average joe to watch top-teir players against each other and to see the players they may have never seen throughout the year on TV. It was great to see LT score his TD, and Kaeding kick the game winner.

I think the game should be played at the same level of intensity as the rest of the season. Its the AFC vs. NFC and a chance to prove your confrences dominance in the league. I don’t mind the players getting injured if there was a point to the entire game. Just make the game mean something…
